OK I fess up. When I designed Flirty Floral, I was thinking back to my teen years.
When my family moved from New York to Connecticut, one of the perks was getting my own room. My first foray into interior decorating was to purchase a floral quilted bedspread...yes- they called them bedspreads in the day. Along with that, I painted my walls bright white and ordered wall to wall kelly green carpeting. Yep- we covered wood floors in the day. To add to the "look" I got a canopy bed with a bright white lace canopy and the ever popular faux colonial bookshelf and matching bureau. Yikes.
Somehow, my cloudy memory remembers the bedspread had alot of leafy, kelly green foliage and bright pops of flowers. When I look at the new, improved Flirty Floral I think of it as an homage to my youth. Allmann Brothers, Twiggy, Vietnam, puka beads, Mary Tyler Moore!
With any redesign it needs to be modernized. A fresh new palette, bolder graphics and lots of pattern. No one at the time would ever have mixed patterns. That was a big no-no until Madonna wore stripes and plaid and florals in the eighties. Do I love the new improved version on the sheets, pillows, shams and comforter? Absolutely! Flirty Floral is designed for the young and the young-at-heart. Coming soon to Bed Bath & Beyond!
